After putting hundreds of miles on this vehicle I can honestly say this is my favorite UTV out of all models to drive. The KRX the perfect balance between drivability, comfort, and reliability. If you are looking for your first UTV, I would highly suggest starting with the KRX.

The UTVUnderground 2024 Kawasaki Teryx KRX 4 1000 Shakedown

Kawasaki, the renowned Japanese manufacturer, has long been a significant player in the world of off-road vehicles. Their latest offering, the 2024 Kawasaki Teryx KRX 4 1000, stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to blending power, comfort, and reliability into one extraordinary machine.

**Engine and Performance**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 houses a robust 999cc parallel-twin engine. It boasts a maximum power output of around 112 horsepower. The liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine, coupled with its high torque, provides a steady flow of power regardless of the terrain. The Teryx KRX 4 1000 stands ready to conquer any off-road challenge that comes its way.

The engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a centrifugal clutch, ensuring optimal delivery of power to the wheels. The addition of the clutch maintains tension on the belt for immediate response, contributing to the vehicle’s impressive low-end torque and smooth power delivery.

**Suspension System**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 sports an impressive suspension setup. Its high-performance FOX 2.5 Podium LSC shocks with adjustable preload and 24-position adjustable compression damping give you a smooth ride on any terrain. These large-bore shocks are built to withstand the punishment of off-road driving, offering both comfort and stability to the vehicle.

The suspension offers 18.6 inches of travel in the front and 21.1 inches in the rear, an extraordinary feature allowing the vehicle to effortlessly glide over rough terrains. You can adjust the damping and preload to match the terrain or riding style, making it a customizable experience for every rider.

**Steering and Handling**

When it comes to steering and handling, the Teryx KRX 4 1000 excels. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) ensures a smooth and responsive driving experience. The EPS reduces the effort needed to turn the wheels, especially at low speeds, enhancing maneuverability.

The handling of this UTV is outstanding, thanks to its strategically placed engine and optimal weight distribution. It achieves a low center of gravity, ensuring exceptional stability, even in high-speed cornering.

**Safety Features**

Kawasaki ensures safety isn’t compromised for thrill. The Teryx KRX 4 1000 features a robust Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS), protecting the passengers in the event of a rollover. The sturdy doors and high-strength seatbelts also contribute to rider safety.

The vehicle is equipped with powerful LED headlights and taillights for better visibility during dusk and night rides. It also boasts four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power, ensuring maximum control over the vehicle.

**Interior and Comfort**

The interior of the Teryx KRX 4 1000 is a blend of comfort and practicality. The cabin is spacious, accommodating four adults with ease. The adjustable high-back bucket seats provide excellent comfort and support, reducing fatigue on long rides.

For a bigger guy like me, this is clutch. I don’t feel like I am being crammed into a UTV meant for small people.

The cabin design also includes practical features such as cup holders and roomy storage compartments, ideal for long off-road adventures. The digital instrumentation provides vital information in a clear, easy-to-read format. The combination of comfort and functionality sets the Teryx KRX 4 1000 apart.

**Audio System**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 offers an optional Kawasaki Genuine Accessories Premium Audio System. This system provides clear, high-quality sound for the riders, enhancing the overall ride experience. The ability to pair the system with a Bluetooth-enabled device allows you to bring your favorite tunes along on every adventure.

I love being able to rock out with my music, especially on longer rides.

**Exterior and Design**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 showcases a rugged and aggressive design. Its muscular stance hints at the power within while maintaining a stylish aesthetic. The practical integration of sturdy front and rear bumpers adds protection and enhances the overall look.

The high ground clearance, courtesy of its massive 31-inch tires, not only improves off-road capability but also contributes to its imposing presence. The attention to detail and design practicality makes the Teryx KRX 4 1000 a standout in its category.

**Wheels and Tires**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 comes fitted with large, 31-inch MAXXIS Carnivore tires that offer excellent traction on various terrains. The 8-ply tires are designed to withstand rough terrains, providing durability and reliability.

The high-quality bead-lock wheels further enhance durability and strength, allowing lower tire pressures for increased traction without the risk of the tire separating from the rim. This makes for a reliable, stress-free off-roading experience.

As you can see I moved up to KMC Terra’s and 32’ BFGoodrich KR2’s to add some ride height, durability, and style.

**Drivetrain**

The drivetrain of the Teryx KRX 4 1000 includes a selectable 2WD/4WD system with a variable front differential control. This advanced system offers an excellent balance between traction, fuel efficiency, and power delivery.

The drivetrain’s seamless operation, complemented by the potent engine, ensures the Teryx KRX 4 1000 can handle any terrain. The drivetrain reflects Kawasaki’s commitment to delivering a driving experience that is both thrilling and user-friendly.

**Dimensions and Weight**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 measures 130.1 inches in length, 68.1 inches in width, and 79.7 inches in height, making it a sizable vehicle in its class. Despite its size, the strategic placement of the engine and the use of lightweight materials keep the vehicle’s curb weight at a reasonable 1,900.8 lbs. This weight, combined with its optimal weight distribution, ensures stability while offering nimble handling.

The KRX platform is the most driveable UTV platform I have driven. It’s cornering and balance is unmatched in the current UTV market.

**Ground Clearance and Wheelbase**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 boasts an impressive ground clearance of 14.4 inches, ensuring the vehicle is equipped to navigate over rocks, logs, and other obstacles with ease. This high ground clearance, along with the generous 98.8-inch wheelbase, aids in maintaining stability, even on challenging terrains.

**Seating and Comfort**

The four high-back bucket seats are ergonomically designed, providing excellent support and comfort during long rides. The seats feature three-point seatbelts for safety and are surrounded by full doors, providing an additional layer of protection against debris during rides. The adjustable driver’s seat and tilt steering wheel allow for customized driving positions, adding to the overall comfort.

**Control and Instrumentation**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 features a digital instrument cluster that provides all the necessary information at a glance. It includes a speedometer, dual trip meters, clock, and much more. An easily accessible 12V DC outlet allows for charging electronic devices, and the multiple storage compartments within the cabin provide practical spaces to store essentials for your off-road adventures.

**Optional Equipment and Accessories**

Kawasaki also offers a range of optional equipment and accessories for the Teryx KRX 4 1000. These include a front brush guard, a hard roof, a cargo box, and a tail light guard, among others. These accessories can enhance the vehicle’s utility, durability, and overall aesthetics.

**Fuel and Storage Capacity**

The Teryx KRX 4 1000 has a fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons. This capacity, though ample for most rides, could be improved given the power of the vehicle and the potential for long, adventurous journeys.

When it comes to storage capacity, this UTV impresses with a large cargo bed capable of holding up to 351 lbs. This capacity, coupled with additional storage spaces in the cabin, make the Teryx KRX 4 1000 a practical choice for long trips.

**Maintenance**

Maintenance for the Teryx KRX 4 1000 is relatively simple, with accessible components and clear maintenance guidelines from Kawasaki. Regular checks should include engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and tire pressure. The vehicle’s design ensures that maintenance procedures do not require extensive technical expertise.

However, it’s important to note that due to its off-road nature, parts like tires, brake pads, and the suspension system may experience higher wear and require more frequent checks or replacements.

**Areas of Improvement**

Despite the many standout features of the Teryx KRX 4 1000, there are areas for potential improvement. The CVT, although providing a smooth ride, can be noisy at higher speeds. Improved insulation around the CVT housing could alleviate this issue.

The vehicle’s fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons could also be improved. Given the thirsty nature of the 999cc engine, a larger fuel tank would be appreciated for longer, uninterrupted rides.

The 999cc engine is probably plenty of horsepower for the average consumer but I definitely want more. Future verison are rumerd to have a turbo or supercharger so I am looking forward to that.

**Price and Value**

The Kawasaki Teryx KRX 4 1000 is competitively priced within the market. Given its comprehensive set of features, robust performance, and the brand’s reputation for reliability, it offers excellent value for its cost. The Teryx KRX 4 1000 is an investment into the world of off-roading, promising memorable adventures and experiences.

**Conclusion**

The 2024 Kawasaki Teryx KRX 4 1000 UTV is an excellent choice for off-road enthusiasts especially first time UTV owners. With its comprehensive set of features and superior performance, it offers a truly thrilling ride. Despite minor areas for improvement, such as a larger fuel tank and quieter CVT operation, and more horsepower the Teryx KRX 4 1000 stands as a testament to Kawasaki’s dedication to creating off-road vehicles that can tackle any terrain with ease and comfort. The combination of power, comfort, and reliability makes this UTV a standout value in the competitive off-road vehicle market.
