The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) dropped another triple header three-race weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. Rounds 6, 7, and 8 were closed to the public but that didn’t stop the racers from giving it their all. Jerett Brooks in the #77 K&N Filters / Bilstein / General Tire Pro 2 came into the weekend leading the division championship points by a narrow margin. Brooks scored two wins to maintain the lead over fellow competitor Doug Mittag who placed 2nd in each of the three races.
Jerett’s new truck was super fast all weekend and qualified 2nd fastest with a 45.093 lap time at 79.835 MPH. Dialing in the setup early was key to Brooks’ success and put him in a position to take down a Round 6 win. With the #77 starting on the front row, it was only a matter of time before Jerett pushed it out front and never looked back until crossing the finish line.
“P1 today!” Brooks stated from the podium. “We had a solid run and got to the lead early and started clicking off laps! I want to give a huge thank you to my team. These guys have not had a day off since we left for Wheatland! We could not do it without the support and great parts we race on from our partners.”
Jerett was on track for another top finish in Round 7 but after some hard door-to-door racing and aggressive contact, the #77’s hood tore, flapping up into the driver’s compartment. Brooks did a stellar job staying in the race but his vision was completely obstructed for half the race. Jerett fought through and held on for a 5th place finish.
Brooks commented, “It was a tough day with my hood coming up at the halfway mark. I legit could not see anything in front of me and it was way sketchy trying to run hard at the normal pace. We finished P5 today which is not what we wanted. We are here to win every race every time. We are going for it in the last race this weekend.”
Round 8 was a wild race and what felt like a shootout. Every truck on the grid was going for broke. Being the final race of the weekend and with just a few events left to determine the season championship, Jerett knew it was critical for a top finish.
The #77 hit the marks and ran a fast flawless race to the finish. “P1 and another win!” Brooks declared. “This one felt good. I had an insanely fast truck. We threw a lot of setup at this truck this weekend and it did the trick. Thanks to my guys for working so hard and making all the changes. I cannot wait for the season finale and it looks like we are going in with the points lead. It will be a battle to the end but we have what it takes to be back-to-back Pro 2 Champions.
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will host Rounds 9 and 10 at Glen Helen Raceway on October 16 & 17 and finally the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup the day after on the 18th.
