2024 UNLTD Championship Chase: Unlimited Truck 2WD, 4WD, and Legends

Sept. 26, 2024

The 2024 UNLTD Off-Road Racing season concludes on October 2-6 with the return of the California 300. As we prepare for an epic finish to this year’s campaign, we’re going to take a look each week at the top racers across the dozens of classes that make up a typical UNLTD entry list.

In the final installment, we’re going to take a look at the three Unlimited Truck classes—2WD, 4WD, and Legends:

Unlimited Truck 2WD

Adam Householder is on a hot streak. After taking last year’s UNLTD Triple Crown with a win at the California 300, Householder paced the Unlimited Truck 2WD class in the season-opening Parker 400, and backed it up with an overall win in the BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 after a thrilling battle with Ryan Arciero. Householder had nearly 11 minutes on any other entry at the Great American Off-Road Race, and almost 25 minutes on Christian Sourapas, his closest competition in class.

Those results have him 17 points clear of Alexander Wacker and 24 ahead of Nic Whetstone coming into the California 300. Wacker and Whetstone finished second and third at Parker, respectively, before placing fourth and sixth at the Mint 400. Rounding out the top five are Bill Apgood and Eric Hardin, both of whom took DNFs at both races so far this year; they’ll look to finish the year strong at Barstow.

Unlimited Truck 4WD

While the 4WD Unlimited Trucks qualify and start mixed in with their 2WD compatriots, they’re scored separately for championship purposes. In both races so far this year, Cole Potts, has beaten all comers, outlasting Justin Lofton at the Parker 400 and defeating Brett Comiskey and Jonathan Brenthel at the Mint 400.

Potts and Comiskey are both on the entry list in Barstow, where they’ve drawn the third and seventh qualifying spots, respectively.

Unlimited Truck Legends

The Unlimited Truck Legends class differs from the other divisions only in that drivers are over 50 years old. In both races so far this season, the class has only seen one finisher, with Wade Porter getting it to the line in Parker and Robert Malone doing so at the Mint. Luis Saenz was the only racer to start both events, making him the points leader by default.

The California 300 will see a new driver add his name to the Legends entry list. After winning both the Parker 400 and Mint 400 in the TrophyLite class, Shawn Runyon makes the leap up to a full-bore Unlimited Truck for the first time in Barstow.
