Interior Department Leaders To Host Community Meeting On Management Of Southern California’s Public Lands

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – On Friday, June 14, Department of the Interior leaders will host a public meeting in Indio to hear from community members about management of the region’s public lands, including the proposal to establish the Chuckwalla National Monument.

The community meeting is part of the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to support locally led conservation efforts across the country. In May, Secretary Deb Haaland visited SouthernCalifornia to meet with federal, state, Tribal and local officials and community members to learn about their vision for conserving the area’s natural and cultural resources and meeting shared clean energy goals. Members of the California delegation have introduced legislation to establish Chuckwalla National Monument and expand Joshua Tree National Park.
