Trey Gibbs Captures 2024 Pro Lite Championship
Bark River, MI
Trey Gibbs added another chapter to his remarkable 2024 season by capturing the Pro Lite Championship after a thrilling weekend of racing at the historic Bark River International Raceway. The triple-header event featured three days of intense competition. Gibbs secured his eighth win of the season, a runner-up finish with enough points to lock in the championship title with one round still to go on the Championship Off-Road Season.
Gibbs went into the weekend with a commanding points lead, and his team was laser-focused on the task. With the #5 Maxxis Tire / STEEL-IT Pro Lite primed and ready, the plan was simple: push hard, qualify strong, and deliver another winning performance. And, for the most part, it went as planned, with Trey securing the #1 qualifier position.
The weekend kicked off with a fierce battle in Round 10, where Gibbs fought his way to a hard-earned second-place finish. Starting strong, he navigated the challenging track conditions, keeping pressure on the leaders throughout. Gibbs made a decisive move in the final lap, securing crucial points that further solidified his lead in the Pro Lite standings.
"This was a wild race for me," admitted Trey. "Everyone is hungry and going for it out there. I was able to make a last lap come back at the end and get a 2nd place podium finish."
Saturday's Round 11 saw Gibbs return to his winning ways, dominating the field to claim his eighth victory of the season. After an intense start, Gibbs quickly found his rhythm, taking the lead by the fifth lap and never relinquishing it. His flawless performance extended his points lead and brought him within reach of the championship, with only one race left on the weekend's schedule.
Sunday's race was charged with anticipation as Gibbs needed only to start to clinch the championship. After taking the green flag, he sealed the deal. However, an unexpected collision on the first lap caused a mechanical failure, forcing him to retire early. Despite the setback, the points accumulated throughout the weekend ensured Gibbs' place as the 2024 Pro Lite Champion.
Gibbs, ecstatic: "Words can't describe what winning the Pro Lite Championship means to my team and me. We've had an incredible 2024 season, and thankfully, I was able to lock down the championship before the last round at Crandon. I started racing ten years ago and always dreamed of competing in a Pro Lite. Now, I've just wrapped up this season by finishing first in points. It's a huge accomplishment for our entire team. My guys have worked their butts off all season, and it shows. This truly wouldn't have been possible without them. I also can't thank our partners enough for helping us reach the finish line this season, Maxxis Tires, STEEL-IT Coatings, See Devil Lights, Impact Safety, Vision Wheels, VP Racing Fuels, Liqui Moly Howe Performance and OPTIMA.
When it was all said and done, Trey Gibbs' performance at Bark River International Raceway secured his place as the 2024 Pro Lite Champion and underscored his exceptional talent and determination. To add another cherry on the weekend, Gibbs scored the fastest lap time in his class and received the Bark River Gladiator Award.
With one round remaining in the Championship Off-Road series, Gibbs has already established himself as the dominant driver, having demonstrated consistency, skill, and resilience throughout the season. As the series heads into its final round, Gibbs can race with the confidence of a champion, knowing he has already etched his name into the record books. Besides the final COR race round, Crandon will feature in the World Championship Cup race, where Gibbs has excelled previously.
