Trey Gibbs Sweeps Rounds 3 And 4 Of Championship Off Road At Antigo
Antigo, WI
Located in the heart of short-course off-road country, Antigo Lions Roaring Raceway in Antigo, Wisconsin, would host Rounds 3 and 4 of the Championship Off-Road 2024 series. Going into the weekend, Pro Lite racer Trey Gibbs led the division points championship by scoring a podium 2nd place finish and race win in Rounds 1 and 2. Rounds 3 and 4 treated him even more favorably as Trey would sweep the weekend with a pair of victories to strengthen his 2024 campaign and defend his 2023 championship.
The weekend would start terrific for Trey, throwing down smooth and fast practice laps. Gibbs then qualified #1 for the pole position with a 54.737 second quickest lap of the session. Trey commented after hearing of earning the top qualifying run, “The #5 Maxxis Tire / STEEL-IT CoatingsPro Lite is feeling hooked up after being fastest in both sessions today! Time to let her eat tomorrow!”
A slight rain delay pushed the schedule back, but with that rain, the track conditions changed what was on the table for the racers. Lining up with eleven other hungry Pro Lite trucks, Lions Roaring Raceway screamed to life. Trey got a great start and would lead the race flag to flag for his second win of the season. Having clean air and no mud up on his plate allowed the #5 TGR Pro Lite a full serving of delicious victory. Gibbs pushed it even further to keep the winning streak alive for Sunday’s Round 4.
Trey commented on the weekend. “It was one heck of a weekend for the TGR team as a whole. I started the weekend going fastest in practice and qualifying, which set us up perfectly for Saturday’s race. I started up front, row one on the outside. Thanks to the hooked-up traction from my Maxxis Liberty tires, I got a quick jump for the lead at the green flag. After that, it was all about staying smart and consistent to wrap up the weekend’s first win.”
Gibbs continued, “For Sunday’s race, I knew we had a fast truck, but also knew we could get faster. We made minor adjustments to the truck before the race, which paid off. I started 4th and made quick work of the guys in front of me. By the
second lap, I was back in the lead, doing what I know best. I was able to bring it home for a complete weekend sweep. I want to thank everyone who supports our program and specifically recognize Maxxis Tires, STEEL-IT Coatings, See Devil Lights, Impact Safety, Vision Wheels, VP Racing Fuels, and Liqui Moly for the valued contributions.
We look forward to keeping the heat up in this category and continuing our successes going into Rounds 5 & 6 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway on June 21st & 22nd.
